American Housing Survey: 2009 — How many householders rate their homes a perfect “10”? How many homes across the country have central air-conditioning? A sprinkler system? Secure entrances to their communities? This household survey asks questions about the characteristics of housing in the United States. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Who's Minding the Kids? Child Care Arrangements: Spring 2005/Summer 2006 — Tables provide data on child care arrangements of preschoolers and grade-schoolers according to various demographic characteristics of the mother for spring 2005 and child care arrangements in summer 2006. Types of child care include relative care, organized care facilities and self care. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Working Paper No. 86: Item Nonresponse, Allocation, and Data Editing of the Question on Hispanic Origin in the American Community Survey (ACS): 2000 to 2007 — This paper evaluates the quality of data from the question on Hispanic origin in the ACS for the years 2000 to 2007. The paper offers recommendations for the question on Hispanic origin. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Who in the United States Sends and Receives Remittances? An Initial Analysis of the Monetary Transfers Data from the August 2008 CPS Migration Supplement — Monetary transfers, commonly called "remittances," refer to personal transfers of money to and from relatives or friends who are living abroad. This report presents initial results on the prevalence, frequency and amount of transfers sent and received. This supplement is noteworthy because it was the first time questions on monetary transfers were included in a federally sponsored, nationally representative survey. (Scheduled for release in early September.)

Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage: 2009 — On Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. EDT, the Census Bureau will hold a Web conference to announce findings from the official report on income, poverty and health insurance coverage for the nation, based on the Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the 2010 Current Population Survey. The Web conference will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation.

Economic Indicators — The Census Bureau releases statistics that provide monthly, quarterly and yearly updates on key measures of the nation's economic condition. Upcoming releases in August include housing starts/building permits and new home sales. Consolidated Federal Funds Report: 2009 and Federal Aid to States for Fiscal Year 2009 — These two reports provide an overview of federal spending at the national, state and county levels. The data have been published annually since 1983 and describe spending for procurement contracts, salaries and wages, direct payments, loans and insurance, as well as federal grants to state and local governments. (Scheduled for release in August.)

State and Local Government Employment and Payroll: 2009 — Latest data showing the number of state and local government employees (full-time equivalent, full-time and part-time), along with payroll amounts, for the United States and individual states. Employment and payroll figures are given for government functions, such as education, police, highways, parks and recreation, sewerage, etc. (Scheduled for release in late August.)

Halloween (Oct. 31) — Halloween is the subject of this collection of Census Bureau statistics, with data from demographic and economic subject areas focusing on the rituals and customs associated with this holiday. (Scheduled for release August 31.)

2010 Census Operations News Briefing — Aug. 10 — U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Groves briefed the media on the status of 2010 Census operations. Groves discussed the status of quality assurance work being done in the field and the steps ahead in the data processing phase of the census. $1.6 Billion in 2010 Census Savings Returned — Aug. 10 — The U.S. Census Bureau announced that it is returning $1.6 billion in 2010 Census operational savings. The savings occurred because 72 percent of households returned the questionnaire by mail, thereby lowering the anticipated cost of sending enumerators door to door. In addition, contingency funding set aside for disasters or major operational breakdowns was not needed and a more productive workforce completed assignments more efficiently.
