Colombian Students Learn About the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The United Nations declared 2011 the International Year of People of African Descent, and the Public Affairs Section at Embassy Bogotá is already celebrating. In honor of Martin Luther King Day, we encouraged audiences to learn more about the meaning of this holiday through an online scavenger hunt.  The embassy posted questions on Facebook and Twitter about the life of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his role in the American civil rights movement.  Answers could be found on U.S. government websites. Between January 11 and 14, we posted one question per day.  The first person to submit a correct answer to each question received an embassy calendar and school kit.  Through the holiday weekend, the embassy posted facts about Dr. King's life and work, including quotes and links to additional information on other websites.

Martin Luther King Day gives us the opportunity to share this American hero's message of peace, tolerance and equality across the world, including here in Colombia. We can't think of a better way to start this special year!
