  • 2020 Donate Life America DMV Innovation Award Winner!

In celebration of National DMV Appreciation Month, Donate Life Washington, D.C. stopped by the Southwest Service Center to thank the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles (D.C. DMV) employees for asking customers if they would like to register to be organ, eye and tissue donors. During our visit, we recognized D.C. DMV Director Gabriel Robinson as a 2020 Donate Life America DMV Innovation Award winner. Director Robinson was nominated and selected for the award for his efforts to find new and engaging ways to help save lives. Under his direction, the D.C. DMV has installed Donate Life murals incorporating the local themes of cherry blossoms and baseball. DMV customers were invited to place a cherry blossom or baseball on the murals if they registered to be an organ donor that day, or contributed to the D.C. DMV Financial Organ Donation and Education Fund. The mural initiative has increased customer interactions and donor designation rates. The D.C. DMV serves approximately 3,000 customers each day and donor designation registrations have increased from 37 percent to 42 percent in the past three years. In addition, the D.C. DMV has raised a record number of $61,000 for donation education programs in 2020.
