US Department of Labor to offer free conference May 24-26 in New York City on prevailing wage requirements for Recovery Act projects

Compliance assistance available on Davis-Bacon Act, other federal labor laws

NEW YORK -- The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division will host a free conference May 24-26 in New York City for members of the federal, state and local contracting communities to provide information on federal rules concerning prevailing wages and other labor law requirements applicable to projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The conference will be held at the Javits Federal Building located at 26 Federal Plaza, New York, N.Y. 10278. The requirements of the Davis-Bacon Act, the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as how those laws apply to Recovery Act-funded projects ranging from heavy construction to weatherization, will be covered.

Wage and Hour Division staff will conduct program seminars that focus on the process of obtaining wage determinations and adding classifications; compliance and enforcement; and how to appeal wage rate, coverage and compliance determinations.

To attend the conference, send a message to whdpwc@dol.gov that includes the participant’s name, title, organization and email address. Upon receipt of this information, a Labor Department representative will advise whether the request can be accommodated, as space is limited. Members of the public should call 202-693-0664 with any questions about the conference. Press should call John Chavez (see above contact information).
