U.S. Department of Labor Offers Free Recovery Act Prevailing Wage Conferences

Sessions to be held July 20-24 in Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) in conjunction with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance will host two Prevailing Wage Conferences in Washington, D.C., during the third full week in July. The conferences, scheduled for July 20-22 (1st session) and July 22-24 (2nd session), will provide information to the federal, state, and local contracting communities on the labor laws applicable to American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) projects.

Conference attendees will gain insight on the Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and various federal contractor workplace discrimination laws and how those laws apply to projects funded by the Recovery Act..

If you are interested in attending, please email your name, title, organization, email address, telephone number, and select a session (1 and 2 are identical) to whdarra@dol.gov. There is no fee for attending this conference; however, space is limited. Upon receipt of this information WHD will advise you whether the request can be accommodated. WHD expects to host additional prevailing wage conferences across the country in the coming months. For questions about the conference, call 202-693-0664.

Federal representatives will conduct the program seminars—with special emphasis on DBA, SCA, and FLSA compliance principles; the process of obtaining wage determinations and adding classifications; compliance and enforcement processes; the process for appealing wage rate, coverage, and compliance determinations; and requirements under Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974.

For more information on the federal prevailing wage statutes or other laws the Wage and Hour Division administers, call the department’s toll-free helpline at 866-4US-WAGE (487-9243) or visit the Internet at www.wagehour.dol.gov.
