The Legal Services Corporation is the single largest funder of civil legal services in the nation. Established by Congress, LSC operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans. The grants are awarded to nonprofit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. The legal aid programs address the civil legal needs of the elderly, veterans and military families, victims of domestic violence, people with disabilities, tenants and homeowners facing foreclosure or eviction, victims of natural disasters, and others.

Report of the Pro Bono Task Force Released on Capitol Hill

On October 2nd, a Pro Bono Task Force convened by the LSC Board of Directors released its findings and recommendations at an event at U.S. Capitol. The Honorable Frank Wolf (R-Virginia), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science & Related Agencies, The Honorable David S. Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, ABA SCLAID Chair Lisa Wood and others spoke. Task force members from across the country joined the DC Pro Bono community to celebrate the report's release.
