Don't forget - fall back tonight.- I join the Fairbanks community today in mourning the loss of the inimitable Ms. Ruby Riddle, official hostess of Fairbanks and a local legend. We met on many occasions and she sent dozens of photos to the office from my visits to Fairbanks. This picture is of "The Southern Miss Ruby" with Fairbanks staffer Tom Moyer and I from February of this year. RIP to a woman who truly embodied the word citizen.

The commissioning ceremony is going to take place in Anchorage this May.- Help a soldier call home from overseas by donating a gently used phone through Cell Phones for Soldiers. Donations are being accepted at all 49 Wells Fargo locations statewide. A great way to recognize Veterans Day this year.

- I was proud to help celebrate the accomplishments of Joseph Purdue, who was named the 2012 Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska in September. Joseph is a student at West High in Anchorage and a member of its JROTC program.

My staffer Thelma got to participate in the ribbon-cutting event earlier this month.

It's great to see more renewable energy projects coming online across Alaska, especially in Fairbanks where costs are so high. I sent a letter this week to the USDA seeking help with a natural-gas distribution network to get North Slope natural gas that is trucked to Fairbanks distributed to homes and businesses. This problem needs to be attacked on multiple fronts.Mark Begich updated his cover photo.

- Congratulations to Juneau's Jennifer Strickler, president of Juneau's Filipino Community Inc., who received word this week that she has been named an Honorary Consul of the Republic of the Philippines. This is a first for Alaska and a huge honor!
- Sen. Daniel Akaka's kind words about me to AFN delegates today were much appreciated. He has been such an amazing advocate for all indigenous people, and will be sorely missed in the Senate but I'm glad he'll always be a friend.
