Regional Asset-Building Conferences: Leading Families and Communities Toward Economic Success

Coastal Bend, May 4: Corpus Christi
Southeast Texas, May 25: Silsbee
Permian Basin, June 16: Midland
Northeast Texas, July 21: Tyler

RAISE Texas, Texas Rural Innovators and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas hosted four regional conferences to expand family economic success and asset-building activities into small cities and rural communities throughout Texas.

Over the past decade, successful asset-building programs have been launched across Texas. They include creating free income tax preparation sites; making available financial education for youth and adults; offering matched savings accounts (Individual Development Accounts) to help families buy homes, attend post-secondary education, and start or expand a business; and providing opportunities for people to become part of the financial mainstream. These community economic development activities are designed to increase the economic viability of struggling families and the communities in which they live.

While successful, these programs have been concentrated in major metropolitan centers and other large cities. Despite similar needs, smaller cities and rural communities have not benefited to the same degree.

In order to serve all Texans better, RAISE Texas, Texas Rural Innovators and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas hosted four regional asset-building conferences as a first step toward expanding these asset-building activities throughout Texas.
