The Atlanta Fed's Americas Center recently published its 2009 annual review. Included in the report are highlights from a number of the center's key programs and initiatives.
Among them is the Access to Banking initiative, launched in 2009 to promote banking services to unbanked and underbanked populations. Last year, the Americas Center hosted an international conference on consumer banking and unveiled an Access to Banking Web page to share information, resources, and best practices on expanding mainstream banking.
The annual review also highlights the center's remittance and immigration initiatives, reflecting its strategic objective to provide leadership in economic and monetary research on key hemispheric policy challenges. In 2009, for example, Atlanta Fed economists conducted research on important topics such as the economic impact of immigration and the role of remittances.
The report describes a number of key projects in the upcoming year, including a conference on remittances and immigration and one with the American Society of Hispanic Economists.
