The Federal Women's Program (FWP) is responsible for improving employment and advancement opportunities for women in the federal service. The activities of the FWP focus on the employment needs and issues of special concern to women as they relate to federal personnel policies and practices.

Federal Women's ProgramThe primary objectives of the Federal Women's Program are to:

  • Eliminate discriminatory practices
  • Assure that women are appropriately represented throughout the Federal work force

The Office of the Federal Women's Program in the Office of Affirmative Employment Programs, U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), provides policy guidance and program leadership for the government-wide FWP. Agency FWP Managers assist women as they advance by identifying barriers to career development, devising solutions, and drafting plans for implementation by the agency head. The major objectives of the FWP Manager are to:

  • Educate and work toward the elimination of sexual harassment in the work place
  • Identify problems and solutions in the recruitment and retention of women in the work place
  • Discuss ideas and present proposals to improve employment opportunities and working conditions for women in the work place
  • Provide training to employees regarding the FWP, EEO-related matters, and career and personal enhancement
