Introducing: The Citizenship Public Education and Awareness Initiative
Today USCIS announced the Citizenship Public Education and Awareness Initiative. This initiative seeks to promote awareness on:
- The rights and responsibilities of
United States - Free naturalization preparation resources available to both aspiring citizens and immigrant-serving organizations.
USCIS will employ digital media, a video public service announcement, and print and radio messages in a variety of languages.
You can view a new public service announcement for the initiative below.
Advertisements will run through September 5, 2011, in the first phase of a planned multiyear effort. USCIS will also increase in-person naturalization outreach efforts to bolster the initiative.

There is no use of this propaganda, by making geniune legal immigrants (EB-3 India) make waiting for 10 years just for a green card. Fix the Legal system first. USCIS and DOL can acheive this just by a memo. why are you making others life miserable and is this Freedom???
@Anonymous: The people who can become citizens ALL have been Legal Permanent Residents for several years.
This IS the legal system.

I applaud USCIS to educate the public about the rights and responsibilities of US citizens. I know that there are quite a number of LPRs who don't know the details, e.g., things like Jury Duty. I've been called in for Jury Duty recently for the first time after my naturalization, and it has been quite an education for me.
Are there plans to address the veterans of the US armed forces who are not yet citizens? Some are getting on in years.

Its interesting how your agency tries to present a good and outstanding image to the general public, but as a BORN and BRED AMERICAN I am appalled how the ins can give so much power to individual officers to do as they please with its AMERICAN citizens.....I am married to a Mexican and have 3 children together as a AMERICA BORN AND BRED I have been told that a marriage license and the existence of of 3 children together along with all kinds of documents aren't enough to prove a BONA FIDE marriage.....now I understand that there are protocols but in my case there is a clear and present need on behalf or the interviewing officer to give us a hard time based on simply a whim.....we are tax paying citizens and have professions and no criminal intent or record but as a AMERICA BORN AND BRED why can I resolve this issue????????????????????? if indeed I have rights??????????? MY FATHER IS A WAR VETERAN THAT HAS FOUGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!! and here I am having to come up with a excess amount proof of my marriage??? I now have to pay extra money to re-open my case and submit more documents .....when is enough enough??? Sadly there are injustices like this probably everyday with many other American citizens trying to legalize the spouses they marry...I have notified my congressman and have also notified the local news agency to see who is interested in this kind of abuse of individual power each of the INS officers have in deciding the direction my life for the next year..as he is the main provider of our income and has a very good job....I am a Nurse working part time. I cannot believe now the INS wants 630.00! more to reopen my case for more papers to prove we are indeed married!!!!!!!!!!!! and 3 kids to boot!!! marriage license and birth certs and rental leases and bills aren't enough...well please tell me what is??? Sadly I will have to lawyer up and spend our savings because I cant figure out what else to do... surely there must be a higher officer that this person that we were interviewed by has to to accountable to???

I contacted personally my senators and congressman the excuses from the American consulate was reminisce of a dictatorship that would have made Stalin, Hitler and... any other mad, illogical dictator proud. Create accountability for this person/officer that interviewes would really be a step to2011...
I've applied for my husband. My husband was told that he passed the citizenship test and was given a paper. Two weeks later, the officer personally called me and demanded me to report to the office right away. I told him we can't becuase I am at work and 250 miles away. He became agitated and demanded us to be at his office at 7:00 in the morning. Incredible that how much power is vested in one person to demand us to his office without telling us why. Even the criminals are given reason for their appearance and enough time to prepare. When asked again for the reason of our reappreanace, he is almost angry." I told you I am not going to discuss it over the phone!" There's no letter in the mail or any other official communication from his office to us. Does he have the authority to demand us to show by a simple phone call? Incredible power.
The comment regarding unqualified individuals engaging in the practice of counseling those sicking immigration benefit is a very pernicious practice not only by some grossly ignorant fellows, also some P.A.
believe that the fact they hold a license it is OK to get money from an alien person and such person has no right to demand for what he or she pay for.
If USCIS wants to help the public in that matter three things can be done 1st. offer a training at least every 3 months in different region to qualified individual. 2nd. Have follow up in the conduct, in the presentation of cases the consistency of the of their good work and 3rd. Create special section of complaint to facilitate the victim a way to support and facitlitate the work of USCIS.
