BLM Seeking Public Comments on Draft Lost Coast Headlands Plan

A draft plan for managing public lands in the Lost Coast Headlands area near Ferndale is now available for public review and comment.

The plan is available online at www.blm.gov/ca/arcata at the link for Lost Coast Headlands.  Printed or CD versions are available by contacting the BLM Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300.

Written comments should be sent to BLM Arcata Field Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata, CA, 95521, or by email to dfuller@blm.gov.  The deadline is Nov. 20, 2012.  The BLM will consider all comments in drafting the final management plan.

The Lost Coast Headlands Activity Plan details objectives and management actions, including improvements and visitor facilities, for the 463 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean west of Ferndale in Humboldt County.  The site features coastal bluffs, rolling hills and pockets of forest in the Fleener Creek and Guthrie Creek watersheds.

In addition to hiking trails providing beach access, the area includes the site of a former U. S. Navy station with vistas of the Pacific and coastal landscapes.

Visitors enjoy quiet pursuits including hiking, bird watching and beachcombing.

More information is available by contacting the BLM Arcata Field Office.
