Ukraine FlagAt the third meeting of the U.S.-Ukraine Trade and Investment Council held in Kyiv in October, 2010, the governments agreed on an Action Plan setting out specific steps to improve the protection of intellectual property rights in Ukraine. In February 2011, the Council of Ministers of the Government of Ukraine adopted the Plan.

U.S.-Ukraine Trade Facts

Ukraine is currently our 70th largest goods trading partner with $3.6 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2011. Goods exports totaled $2.1 billion; Goods imports totaled $1.5 billion. The U.S. goods trade surplus with Ukraine was $645 million in 2011.

Exports

Ukraine was the United States' 61st largest goods export market in 2011.

U.S. goods exports to Ukraine in 2011 were $2.1 billion, up 54.9% ($746 million) from 2010, and up 1,030% from 2000.

The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2011 were: Mineral Fuel (coal) ($976 million), Machinery ($332 million), Vehicles ($202 million), Fish and Seafood ($76 million), and Aircraft ($58 million).

U.S. exports of agricultural products to Ukraine totaled $92 million in 2011. Leading categories include: and poultry meat ($14 million), eggs and egg products ($12 million), and red meats fresh/chilled/frozen ($12 million).

Imports

Ukraine was the United States' 72nd largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

U.S. goods imports from Ukraine totaled $1.5 billion in 2011, a 35.4% increase ($382 million) from 2010, and up 67.2% from 2000.

The five largest import categories in 2011 were: Iron and Steel ($384 million), Inorganic Chemicals ($339 million), Mineral Fuel (oil) ($236 million), Iron and Steel Products ($219 million), and Aircraft ($37 million).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Ukraine totaled $14 million in 2011.

Trade Balance

The U.S. goods trade surplus with Ukraine was $645 million in 2011, up 129.5% ($364 million) from 2010.
