Charles  E. Milam

Mr. Charles E. (Chuck) Milam, assumed the duties of Principal Director for Military Community and Family Policy in March 2011.

A member of the Senior Executive Service, he is responsible for policy, advocacy, and oversight of all community support to service members and families including quality of life issues; family and casualty assistance; morale, welfare and recreation programs; Military OneSource and Military HOMEFRONT Web sites; the Department of Defense Education Activity; and the Defense Department’s commissary and exchange services.

Mr. Milam holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business and management from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science degree in international relations from Troy State University, Ala., and a Juris Doctor degree from British-American University, Colo.  He is a graduate of the Air War College, the Federal Executive Institute, and the Defense Leadership and Management Program.

Mr. Milam began his career with civil service in 1980; since that time he has held several Air Staff level, major command and base-level positions in Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Services and Installation and Logistics organizations.  His assignments have included Pirmasens and Zweibrucken Army posts, Lindsey Air Station and Ramstein Air Base, all located in Germany; Langley Air Force Base, Va.; Vance Air Force Base, Okla.; Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.; the Pentagon; and the U.S. Air Force Academy and Headquarters Air Force Space Command.  Mr. Milam also served as the Air Force's representative on the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors from July 1998 through November 2003 and was most recently the Air Force's adviser to the U.S. Olympic Committee.  Prior to his current assignment in Military Community and Family Policy, Mr. Milam was Director, Air Force Services, Headquarters Air Force.  

Mr. Milam is a two-time recipient of the Air Force Services Senior Civilian Manager of the Year award.   Other awards and honors include the Exemplary Civilian Service Award, Meritorious Civilian Service Award (seven awards) and the Armed Forces Recreation Society Executive Fellow Award.
