Rappel Master Certification

    Soldiers from around the nation face their final challenge Sept. 28 during the Aircraft Command and Control evaluation as part of the U.S. Army’s Rappel Master Course taught by rappel masters and instructors of the 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute at Fort Pickett. The five-day course began Sept. 24 and aims to certify air assault Soldiers as rappel masters, qualifying them to conduct rappelling operations both on the ground and on aircraft, train rappellers and also inspect rigged rappellers. The class started with 26 National Guard and Reserve Soldiers from states including Alaska, Virginia, Texas, Nevada, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, and Ohio, and is expected to wrap with 13 Soldiers passing the course and acquiring their rappel master certification.
