Ranger taking tour group through Lehman Caves
Alana Dimmick
Witness the beauty of Lehman Caves

Lehman Caves is an amazing playground for your child's imagination! The 60-minute Lehman Caves Tour is recommended for families with small children, as children 4 and younger are not permitted on the 90-minute tour. Please remember that touching cave formations is strictly prohibited.

The Great Outdoors
The Mountain View Nature Trail wanders 0.3 miles through the pinyon-juniper forest next to the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. A trail guide, available for check-out at the visitor center, describes the geology and ecology of the area.

The gentle 0.4 mile loop Island Forest Trail winds through a high alpine forest. Interpretive signs explain how this forest exists, cut off from other forests by distance, elevation, and time.  Begin at the Bristlecone Parking lot at the end of the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive.

A good, longer walk to break in a young hiker is the Alpine Lakes Loop. The 2.7 mile trail passes by two beautiful alpine lakes, Stella and Teresa, providing great views of Wheeler Peak. Begin at the Bristlecone Trail parking lot at the end of the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive. Elevation gain of 600 feet (180 m). Day use only.

Photo Safari
Give your kids the chance to discover the artist inside with your digital camera. Document Great Basin National Park in photos, allowing each child to photograph scenes, animals, or a location they love. Try photographing objects that tell the story of the current season, like new flowers in the Spring, or orange leaves in the Fall. Compile the photos into a scrapbook or family calendar.

Junior Ranger Program
This program provides children with an opportunity to learn about and interact with the park at their own pace.

Lexington Arch

Did You Know?
Great Basin National Park is home to Lexington Arch, one of the largest limestone arches in the western United States. This six-story arch was created by the forces of weather working slowly over the span of centuries. This type of above ground limestone arch is rare.
