Tag Your Content

It is important to label your photos, videos, discussion forums, and blogs with tags to make them easier for others to find when searching for content. Tags will appear at the bottom of your content after you post it.

Tagging is used to organize content based upon the topics to which it relates.

Think of common keywords that you or someone else might use to search for your photos, videos, blogs, and discussion posts.

For example, you can tag a discussion about a Global Connections and Exchange (GCE) student's experience in the United States with descriptive tags like "GCE, exchange, experience, USA, the country the participant is from, and the name of the city and state the participant was placed in." These sorts of tags help to guide you and other ExchangesConnect members who are searching the site for any of these topics.

Tags also help make the search process more effective on ExchangesConnect. For example, while reading the same discussion forum about the GCE student's experience, you might want to find out more about other people's experience in the GCE program. Clicking the tag "GCE" would take you to a list of all discussion forums that also have the same tag.

So, the next time you that are uploading a file, adding photos or posting to a forum, remember to add your tags. It's quick and easy, and it will boost the value and searchability of your content. To add tags, enter words or short phrases, separated by commas, into the "Edit Your Tags" field.

Important: To enter a tag phrase longer than one word, you must put quotes before and after the phrase, like this: "exchange programs".

Again, tags should be words or short phrases that others might search. Tagging content with a long phrase like "Global Connections and Exchange in Afghanistan" will be less useful than adding the separate tags "GCE", "Afghanistan", and "exchange."
