The BLM relies on volunteers to help accomplish important projects. Each year, over 4,000 volunteers contribute more than 200,000 hours valued at more than $4.5 million to the BLM. No matter what your background, age, or interest, there are opportunities for you to become a BLM volunteer. You can work individually or as part of a group, and projects can range from short-term, one-day adventures to season-long commitments.                              

Volunteer opportunities may include:

• Preserving and cataloging artifacts
• Assisting biologists with research
• Performing office support tasks
• Maintaining interpretive sites
• Serving as campground hosts or trail guides
• Conducting inventories and identifying plants
• Maintaining wildlife habitats
• Revegetating wildlife and riparian areas
• Erecting signs and fences
• Constructing or maintaining facilities
• Assisting with habitat improvement projects
• Monitoring watershed studies

• Voutdoors - this is the most comprehensive database for volunteer opportunities in Colorado.
• Outdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI) - This organization provides training for volunteers accross Colorado. BLM, USFS, State Parks, National Park Service and many nonprofits are partners in this initiative.
