1/7/2011 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Chorale is scheduled to perform the National Anthem Jan. 10 at the Bowl Championship Series National Championship game prior to kickoff in Glendale, Ariz.
The Cadet Chorale is composed of men and women from all four cadet classes who represent the Academy through music. Twenty members of the chorale were chosen to perform at the national title game.
"The cadet chorale is honored and thrilled to represent the Air Force Academy with the opportunity to perform at this prestigious event," said cadet chorale director Dr. Joseph Galema.
Cadets who indicate interest in the program are auditioned to determine musical ability, officials said. Once a member, they must balance their commitment to the chorale with the intense academic, military and athletic rigors of the Academy. Chorale rehearsals are limited, but the repertoire is still large, including the greatest pieces from the whole heritage of music.
The chorale has sung in nearly every state in the nation. The most recent nationally televised performance was Macy's 80th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, held in New York City.
The matchup between Auburn University and the University of Oregon will be televised on ESPN on Jan. 10. Coverage begins at 8:30 p.m. EST and 6:30 p.m. MST.
