B. VERGOS REAPPOINTED
AS UNITED STATES TRUSTEE
FOR KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Ellen B.
Vergos has been reappointed by Attorney General Janet Reno
as United States Trustee for Region 8, which consists of Kentucky
and Tennessee.
Vergos was first appointed
United States Trustee for Region 8 on Jan. 9, 1995. She has
practiced bankruptcy law since 1981, representing both debtors
and creditors in cases filed under Chapters 7, 11, and 13.
Prior to her first appointment as United States Trustee, she
was a partner in the Memphis law firm of Waring Cox PLC. Before
joining Waring Cox in 1980, she served as a Law Clerk for
District Judge Harry W. Wellford of the Western District of
Tennessee (currently a Senior Judge on the Court of Appeals
for the Sixth Circuit), and then worked as an associate with
the Nashville law firm of Farris, Warfield & Kanaday.
Vergos received her Bachelor's
Degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and her Juris
Doctor from the University of Memphis School of Law, and was
licensed to practice law in 1976. She is active in many professional
organizations, having served as president of the Tennessee
Lawyers' Association for Women, as a board member for the
Memphis Bar Association and the MidSouth Commercial Law Institute,
as an Assistant Bar Examiner on the Tennessee Board of Law
Examiners, and as a member of the Hearing Committee for the
Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility. She was named
a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation in 1996, is a member
of the Shelby County Health Care Board, and participates in
civic and volunteer work in organizations that promote education
and career opportunities for girls and women.
The principal office for Region
8 is located in Memphis; other offices are located in Nashville,
Tenn.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Louisville, Ky.; and Lexington,
Ky. Vergos' second five-year term took effect on Feb. 14,
2000.
The United States Trustee
Program is an arm of the Justice Department that supervises
the administration of bankruptcy cases nationwide.
