Funding Opportunities for Work Force Health Promotion

Limited funding is often one of the biggest challenges facing new and existing workforce health promotion (WHP) programs. Funding for your program may be available through various government, research, and philanthropic organizations. Federal agencies can also consult Employee Health Programs, developed by the Office of Personnel Management for information on operating and funding WHP programs at federal agencies.

Current WHP Funding Opportunities

Three common funding avenues to support WHP research activities are program announcements (PAs, PARs), requests for applications (RFAs), and requests for proposals (RFPs). Grant announcements often come in the form of PAs or RFAs, while contract announcements are often made as an RFP. PAR-05-026- Community Participation in Research
Expiration Date: May 18, 2007
The purpose of Community Participation in Research grants is to support community-based participatory research on health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities. WHP research fits within the scope of this PAR as the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is one of the participating organizations that support this initiative.

Eligibility: Eligible organizations include for-profit and not-for-profit, public or private organizations, units of state and local governments, eligible agencies of the federal government, domestic or foreign institutions/organizations, faith-based or community-based organizations, and Native American tribal organizations.

American Association of Occupational Health Nurses
Annually, the AAOHN Foundation awards grants to support research conducted to advance knowledge in occupational and environmental health.

Active Living Research
Active Living Research supports research to examine relationships between policy issues, characteristics of natural and built environments, and personal levels of physical activity in a variety of settings, including worksites.

Grants.gov

Kaiser Family Foundation
The foundation is focused in four main areas: health policy, reproductive health, HIV policy, and health and development in South Africa. Grant application material and new grants made by the foundation are available through the Foundation Web site.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
