September 2010 Release (October 13, 2010)

World petroleum production data for the month of July 2010 have been added. OECD country petroleum demand, imports, and stocks data for the month of June 2010, and the second quarter of 2010, have been added. As in the August edition, production and consumption data for Chile are included in the OECD totals.

August 2010 Release (September 10, 2010)

World petroleum production data for the month of June 2010, and OECD country petroleum demand, imports, and stocks data for the month of May 2010, have been added. The major change for this edition is that production and consumption data for Chile are included in the OECD totals. Chile became a member of the OECD in May 2010. The Monthly Oil Data Service (MODS) of the International Energy Agency does not yet include data for Chile. For production and consumption in Chile, this edition uses data prepared by the U. S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Through the end of 2008, the Chile consumption data are annual data; the annual values for each year have been repeated for all of the months and quarters. For 2009 and 2010, the Chile consumption data vary by month, and agree with the values used in the EIA Short-Term Energy Outlook . This edition does not contain data on Chile stocks or trade.

There are 2 other data changes in this edition. First, the United States data for 2009 have been revised, to match the values in the EIA Petroleum Supply Annual 2009, Volumes 1 and 2 . Second, there are small changes in consumption values for OECD Europe over the period 1984 to 1999. These changes are part of normal updates to historical data that the International Energy Agency makes once each year.

July 2010 Release (August 10, 2010)

World petroleum production data for the month of May 2010, and OECD country petroleum demand, imports, and stocks data for the month of April 2010, have been added. Note that there have been extensive revisions in OECD consumption, going back to 2000. There have also been revisions in OECD stocks, going back to 2004. There are revisons in world oil supply back to 1999. The oil supply revisons before 2008 are fairly small.

January 2009 Release (February 6, 2009)

Important Changes This Month

In this release of the International Petroleum Monthly there are two major changes:

(1) World Oil Supply data for 1980, 1986-1990, 1992, and 2005 have been revised to match data in the recently released Table G.2 of the International Energy Annual 2006.

(2) Petroleum Stock data in Table 2.3 and Petroleum Stock Draws / Discrepancy data in Table 2.1 have been changed. Since we can no longer obtain the data series on Stocks for Export and Afloat and Commercial Floating stocks, these two stock categories have been removed from Table 2.3. Also, these two categories of stocks have been removed from the calculation of the Total Reported Draws line in Table 2.1. As a result, the line in Table 2.1 that had been labeled "Total Reported Draws" has now been relabeled "Total Reported OECD Draws". The Table 2.1 line "Other Stock Draws and Statistical Discrepancy" is now also calculated without using the data series on Stocks for Export and Afloat and Commercial Floating Stocks. As before, a footnote to Table 2.1 explains the calculation for the line "Other Stock Draws and Statistical Discrepancy".

October 2002 Release

This release of the International Petroelum Monthly (IPM) has two important changes: (1) a new data source has been introduced; and (2) the use of new processing systems has affected the format and availability of the tables and figures (graphs). The Energy Information Administration (EIA) uses petroleum statistics from the International Energy Agency (IEA) to develop monthly data for petroleum demand, imports, and stocks for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. Recently the IEA asked that EIA stop using data from IEA's Monthly Oil and Gas Statistics Database and start to use data from their Monthly Oil Data System (MODS). Starting with this release of the IPM, users will find new MODS data in various tables, as described below. In addition, EIA is changing the systems for processing and presenting its monthly international petroleum statistics. Some older mainframe computer processing systems are no longer available and it may require a few months to fully implement new systems. This has affected our reporting capabilities. Many tables will appear in this release. However, some tables and figures will be temporarily unavailable and replacements will be phased in during the coming months. See below for specific changes.

Permanent changes include: (1) OECD country petroleum import data will be based on MODS beginning with January 2001 data, while OECD country petroleum demand and stocks data will be based on MODS beginning with January 2002 data; (2) tables in txt format will be replaced by tables in spreadsheet format; (3) there will no longer be a PDF format version of the IPM; and (4) the four figures (Figure 1.-Figure 4.) will no longer be available.

Other Changes: We have also changed table titles and row titles in all of the tables in
Section 3. International Oil Imports and in Tables 4.7-4.18 of Section 4. Historical Oil Data Series to clearly indicate whether data are gross imports or net imports.

For more detailed information on the changes to each table, including changes in URLs and whether the table is currently available, please see Changes to the IPM.
