    Col. Kim, Hee-soo, commander, 600th Defense Security Unit, presents a farewell gift to Col. Larry 'Pepper' Jackson, USAG-Red Cloud commander, March 23, at Mitchell's club. The 600th DSU, comprised of five teams, is stationed in northern Gyeongi-gi Province. The first two teams duty is to support security at USAG-Red Cloud and USAG-Casey. The 600th DSU agents cooperate with the Korean National Police and National Intelligence Service to exchange or gather intelligence and support the 2nd Infantry Division with security. Area I, 2ID Intelligence, the Military Police and Criminal Investigation Department are the main partners of the 600th DSU. Dealing with incidents is another role of the 600th DSU. When Soldiers find themselves in trouble off-post, the 600th DSU acts as a negotiator between 2ID and the KNP or local government. In addition to providing security for 2ID, the 600th DSU organizes tours for U.S. Soldiers to the Demilitarized Zone, even arranging lodging to facilitate Republic of Korea/U.S. friendship.

Students needing only one year to finish before moving on to classes in Yongsan's junior high school and senior high school want to be 'grandfathered in' so they may finish in the school they are currently attending paid by the Department of Defense Education Activity. All other students within the Red Cloud Garrison foot print would attend school in the new DODEA School being constructed on Casey.

During FORSCOM's 2010 AFAP conference March 24-26; Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (FMWRC) Project Liaison Michelle Reilly and Defense Web Technologies Project Manager Michele Ruditis facilitated Beta testing of the AFAP Issue Management System (IMS) for FORSCOM Well-Being staff and conference attendees. The AFAP IMS will allow for review, submission, escalation and tracking of issues throughout the issue-resolution process, according to Ruditis.

    PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - The fifth annual Big Sur Mud Run brought over 2,000 participants, more than previous years, to the Freeman Stadium of California State University Monterey Bay in Seaside March 27. This yearAca,!a,,cs military team winner was the Army Fluid Run team, consisting of Jeremy Wilbur, Brock Jas, Timothy McGuire William Funderburk and Chris Folk. Military female and male winners were Maureen Scott and Rory Redding, respectively. The Mud Run, a Big Sur Marathon event sponsored by the Presidio of Monterey Garrison and CSUMB, is an approximately five-mile trail which included obstacles and four mud pits. Presidio Soldiers and Marines were on hand to motivate runners through the obstacles and mud. The event is a non-profit run in which proceeds go to local charities.
