FORT BENNING, Ga.(Army News Service, Feb. 26, 2008) -- Two Soldiers from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit are trying out this weekend for the 2008 Olympic Team.

During the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Shooting (Airgun), Feb. 29 to March 3, Sgt. 1st Class Jason A. Parker will compete for a spot shooting air rifle, while Sgt. 1st Class Daryl L. Szarenski will compete for an air pistol position. The trials are being held in Colorado Springs, Colo.

There are five spots available for airgun on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, including two men's air rifle positions, a women's air rifle position, and both men's and women's air pistol positions.

In recent performances, Soldiers from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit captured a number of titles:

Pfc. Brad A. Balsley and Staff Sgt. John C. Ennis took first and third place during the USA Shooting Three-Times Rapid Fire Pistol Match at Fort Benning, Ga., Feb. 15 to 17.

Sgt. 1st Class Shawn C. Dulohery and Pfc. Vincent C. Hancock took first and second place in the skeet match during the Barbados Open, Christ Church, Barbados, Jan. 17 to 20.

Sgt. Matthew T. Wallace and Staff Sgt. Richard R. Hadden took second and third place during the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center Trap Matches, Kerrville, Texas, Jan. 6 to 14.

Competitors in the Olympic Team Trials will learn if they were selected for the U.S. Team at the conclusion of the trials.
