Fifty-three units of blood were collected during the drive, Feb. 15 and 16. Thirty units were from active-duty Soldiers.

In addition to receiving briefings on the workings of the arsenal, the team got an inside look at Picatinny's Toys for Tots program, toured the largest prototype manufacturing facility on the 6,500-acre installation (the Prototype Integration Facility) and got a chance to sharpen their shooting skills at the Marine Corps weapons simulation range.

    The U.S. Army Accessions Command, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, U.S. Army Cadet Command and Accessions Support Brigade, greatly enhanced Army awareness and established lasting relationships, by participating in the 2011 Chicago Auto Show (CAS). The U.S. Army exhibit covered 12,000 square feet and the Army showcased green and stealth technology unmatched in the civilian sector, a great addition to the show this year. Two concepts from the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command's (RDECOM), Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), the Clandestine Extended Range Vehicle (CERV) and the Future Tactical Truck System (FTTS), are two of the future concept vehicles from the TARDEC in Detroit. The U.S. Army 'Strength in Action Zone,' hosted numerous interactive displays for the public to engage in, including Drill Sergeants from Fort Knox Kentucky and NHRA Dragster Driver, Sgt. 1st Class Don OAca,!a,,cNeal, who shared his car with the public. The interactive and innovative assets helped provide an increased understanding and appreciation of the benefits and value of Army service and awareness of the unmatched education, career and leadership opportunities available, as well as educated the public on Soldiers, Army life and the leading-edge technology the U.S. Army provides. The ten-day auto show attracted about two million spectators, ending on Sunday February 20.

The cards were made by the post's Ladies Auxiliary Junior Girls Unit and given to Soldiers of the brigade who recently returned home from deployment operations. Spencer, who a short time ago returned from a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan as the commander of the brigade's 382nd Transportation Theater Opening Element, Special Troops Battalion, expressed great thanks to the auxiliary's Junior Girls for taking the time to make the cards and bring his Soldiers a bit of Valentine's Day cheer. "Happy Valentine's Day to our American heroes," said Guillory as she handed the bundle of brightly colored cards to Spencer. "We are here to support you and the entire community of veterans stationed at Fort Eustis."

    Major Joseph Frescura, United States Army Special Forces Command (USASFC), was recognized during the Chicago Bears 3rd Quarter Military Salute on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, in front of over 62 Thousand spectators. Frescura was joined by his wife Kerry and son's Joe and Alex for the recognition at Soldier Field. Frescura was representing the men of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Illinois Army National Guard. Company A conducted multiple unconventional warfare missions across multiple sectors of Afghanistan, as well as several rescue missions of United States and Coalition troops who were under heavy enemy contact. The fans at Soldier Field roared as Maj. Frescura ran over to shake hands with them, while the entire stadium chanted, "USA, USA!"

    While the snow earlier in January slowed things up a few days on the outside, work continued on the inside of FORSCOM's Army Ground Forces Band's new training facility. The project is 55 percent complete and on schedule for completion in June. The 18,748-square-foot building will have a state-of-the-art concert band rehearsal hall, a jazz band/large group rehearsal room for a 25-piece ensemble, six small group rehearsal rooms for five- to eight-piece ensembles, and seven individual practice rooms. Acoustic control will be accomplished through finish selections such as acoustical ceiling tile, acoustical wall panels and acoustic floor panels, particularly in the main rehearsal room, practice rooms and main lobby. All finish materials have environmental benefits and are durable and easy to maintain and replace as necessary. The band will move to Fort Bragg with Headquarters, Army Forces Command, the summer of 2011, in accordance with the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure legislation.

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Actor D.B. Sweeney - who has starred and appeared in movies, mini-series and television shows such as Lonesome Dove, Memphis Belle, House, Criminal Minds and The Cutting Edge - toured Joint Base San Antonio on Jan. 26 to recognize Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen stationed there. Sweeney also visited with wounded warriors at the Center for the Intrepid, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility, as well as inpatients at Brooke Army Medical Center. Following lunch with troops at the Department of Defense's largest dining facility, he observed the 232nd Medical Battalion's Combat Medic training. He ended his visit by meeting with wounded troops and their families at the Warrior and Family Support Center. Sweeney, who also toured Iraq 2008, started the organization "Letters From Hollywood" in 2010 to encourage other actors, actresses and celebrities to write letters of thanks and support to servicemembers.
