The National Cancer Institute is now accepting applications for its 2013 internship program designed to expand opportunities in the field of biomedical research.
Awardees for the Capacity Building Assistance to Improve Health in Tribal Populations FOA (July 2012)
- National Native American AIDS Prevention
Center (NNAAPC)
Awarded $288,400 to provide capacity building and technical assistance to six tribal health departments. Funding will support - Southcentral Foundation (SCF)
Awarded $ 300,000 to assist in reducing childhood obesity among Alaska Native and American Indian youth in Alaska. SCF’s capacity building assistance will support- A breastfeeding education class for pregnant women
- A support group for women after childbirth
- Lactation education courses and certification for three health educators
- Revisions to the InJoy curriculum to be culturally relevant and teach breastfeeding basics
- The Snuggle Time weekly support group, where participants share their struggles and joys with one another, a behavioral health consultant, and a certified lactation educator
- The Physical Activity Club for Kids, an
after-school program for overweight and obese
children, led by two Alaska Native clinical
exercise specialists
New Leadership for CDC Tribal Support
OSTLTS recently welcomed its new Associate Director for Tribal Support, Delight Satter, MPH. Satter was central in planning the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials’ Tribal and State Health Collaborative Roundtable that took place earlier this year in Atlanta.
