Established in 1988, the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence is administered by Utah State University and has been referred to by Business Week magazine as the "Nobel prize of manufacturing."

The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence was previously split into a public sector category and a business category, but now the awards are given as one group. Several AMC organizations have been recipients of the Shingo Prize Public Sector Award.

The awards will be presented during the organization's 22nd Annual Awards ceremony in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 20.
