Project Description:

A research opportunity is available in the Program Operations and Coordination Staff (POCS) within the Office of Crisis Management (OC) of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). POCS serves as the agency focal point for managing the Emergency Operations Network Incident Management System (EON IMS) project.

Opportunities may include:

  • Developing a system to manage information and organize key data in such a way to facilitate risk management decisions in emergency response
  • Preparing, reviewing, and disseminating information related to project progress and milestones in conjunction with ensuring progress is made on projects and on target project outcomes
  • Researching data to support efforts relating to FDA’s emergency response, and incorporating best practices into system requirements documentation
  • Participating in inter- and intra-agency meetings related to emergency preparedness and response activities
  • Assisting in other projects that directly support FDA’s preparedness for responding to and assisting the nation in recovering from emergency events that involve or impact FDA regulated products
  • Assist the PM with IT and funding data call requests for the EON IMS application
  • Assist the PM to conduct  and test quarterly and annual User Assessments and Security protocols for the EON IMS application

The Research Participation Program for FDA is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of FDA contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend depending on educational level and experience. The participant must show proof of health insurance. The appointment is full-time at FDA in the Silver Spring, Maryland, area. Participants do not become employees of FDA or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in public health, project management, environmental health, information management, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field, received within the last five years.
  • Knowledge of the principles and applications of information technology, program and project management, requirements gathering, needs analysis, and best practices in software development is desirable.
