Figure 5 is a bar graph representing the outcome of ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, by stage, 2007.

  • 101,897 cycles started
  • 90,295 retrievals
  • 82,347 transfers
  • 36,079 pregnancies
  • 29,556 live–birth deliveries

Figure 6 is a pie chart representing the reasons ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos were discontinued in 2007. Note: The statistics below are based on 11,602 ART cycles.

  • No or inadequate egg production 80.6%
  • Patient withdrew for other reasons 13.0%
  • Too-high of a response to ovarian stimulation medication 5.4%
  • Concurrent illness 1.0%

Figure 7 is a bar graph representing the measures of success for ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, 2007.

  • Cycles resulting in pregnancies 35.4%
  • Cycles resulting in live births 29.0
  • Retrievals resulting in live births 32.7%
  • Transfers resulting in live births 35.9%
  • Cycles resulting in singleton live births 22.5%
  • Transfers resulting in singleton live births 24.7%

Figure 8 is a pie chart representing the results of ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, 2007.

  • No pregnancy 63.9%
  • Ectopic pregnancy 0.7%
  • Clinical pregnancy 35.4%, which is subdivided as follows:
    • Single-fetus pregnancy 21.7%
    • Multiple-fetus pregnancy 11.5%
    • Not able to determine the number of fetuses because the pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage 2.2%

Figure 9 is a pie chart representing outcomes of pregnancies resulting from ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, 2007.  Note: Maternal deaths prior to birth are not displayed due to small numbers (n=2).

  • Miscarriage 15.8%
  • Induced abortion 1.0%
  • Stillbirth 0.6%
  • Total live births 81.9%, which is subdivided as follows:
    • Singleton birth 56.3%
    • Multiple-infant birth 25.6%

    The outcome was not reported for 0.7% of pregnancies.

Figure 10 consists of two pie charts, A and B, representing the risk of having a multiple-fetus pregnancy and the risk of having a multiple-infant live birth from ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, 2007.

  • Pie chart A represents 36,079 pregnancies
    • Singletons 61.2%
    • Total multiple-fetus pregnancies 32.5%, which is subdivided as follows:
      • Twins 28.8%
      • Triplets or more 3.7%
    • Not able to determine the number of fetuses because the pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage 6.3%
  • Pie chart B represents 29,556 live births. Note: total does not equal 100% due to rounding.
    • Singletons 68.7%
    • Total multiple-infant live births 31.2%, which is subdivided as follows:
      • Twins 29.4%
      • Triplets or more 1.8%

Figure 11 is a bar graph representing the percentages of preterm births from ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, by number of infants born, 2007.

  • 12.5% singletons from single-fetus pregnancy were preterm
  • 19.9% singletons from multiple-fetus pregnancy were preterm
  • 61.7% twins were preterm
  • 96.1% triplets or more were preterm

Figure 12 is a bar graph representing the percentages of low-birth-weight infants from ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos, by number of infants born, 2007.

  • 8.4% singletons from single-fetus pregnancy had low birth weights
  • 16.5% singletons from multiple-fetus pregnancy had low birth weights
  • 56.2% twins had low birth weights
  • 91.5% triplets or more had low birth weights
