Abstract

The Office of Emergency Operations from the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration deployed an emergency response team to Japan to conduct aerial and ground-based environmental radiation monitoring following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. The team partnered with U.S. Forces Japan to support both U.S. Military and Government of Japan objectives. The deployed team was supported domestically by the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS), the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center (NARAC), and the DOE Consequence Management Home Team (CMHT). An overview of the activation, deployment, capabilities, response objectives, coordination, and activities will be discussed.
