Eastman, the supply sergeant for Company B, 37th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, 18th Airborne Division in Joint Air Base Balad, received a supply mission to Camp Liberty. While there, she made good on a tradition the two of them have maintained for years: father-daughter date night.

During FORSCOM's 2010 AFAP conference March 24-26; Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (FMWRC) Project Liaison Michelle Reilly and Defense Web Technologies Project Manager Michele Ruditis facilitated Beta testing of the AFAP Issue Management System (IMS) for FORSCOM Well-Being staff and conference attendees. The AFAP IMS will allow for review, submission, escalation and tracking of issues throughout the issue-resolution process, according to Ruditis.

Known as the Census, this once-per-decade effort begins April 1, but many people have already started receiving the forms in the mail. U.S. Department of Commerce officials said accurate census reporting among Soldiers and their Families is important. In fact, they emphasize that it's just as important to the military population as it is for their civilian counterparts. The Census results determine the distribution of about $400 billion per year, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. This money is what funds community services nationwide, services that also benefit Soldiers and their Families.

Planned and facilitated by Well-Being Division personnel from FORSCOM G-1, 56 delegates from Army installations nationwide assembled here this week to review 72 quality-of-life issues identified during last year's installation-level AFAP conferences. First the delegates were assigned to five workgroups, and then the 72 issues were organized into five categories - Benefits and Entitlements; Child, Youth and School Services; Family Support/Civilian Issues; Force Support; and Medical and Dental.

Lance Noell, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade and Spc. Jordan Dahl, Troop C, 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

McCullum, FMWRC director of family programs, sought to inspire conference delegates to continue doing good work, such as with their promotion of Army Family programs and also in their participation during the week-long conference. "Ordinary people like us...can accomplish awesome and extraordinary things," she said. "That is really what you're here about today-and during the next couple of days-is that you will accomplish extraordinary things."

Hooker Sr., graduated from parachute jump school in 1956, served three tours in Vietnam and retired in 1986 as a full colonel. U.S. Army Col. R.D. Hooker Jr., a Paratrooper since 1976, leads the communications action group at Combined Joint Task Force - 82, at Bagram Airfield. U.S. Army Pvt. Chris Hooker graduated jump school in 2009 and is currently serving at a combat outpost in eastern Afghanistan.

    Sergeant Delbert Grush was assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion in January 2008 after being medically evacuated from Afghanistan. Grush said that he had been serving with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division when he first developed neurological symptoms that were later diagnosed as multiple sclerosis. Grush decided to take information technology classes at the Transition Training Academy. Grush and about 36 other Soldiers and retirees received their graduation certificates at a 2 p.m. ceremony in the Soldier Support Center March 8. It was TTA's first graduation.

    Troy E. "Gil" Gilleland Jr. retired March 12, 2010, after more than 38 years of dedicated federal service that ranged from enlisted Soldier to non-commissioned officer to Army officer to Department of the Army civilian to a member of the Senior Executive Service. As a Soldier he went from E-1 to E-6 and from O-1 to 0-6. His retirement ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Army's largest command, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), where he had served as the deputy chief of staff G-1 since June 2005.

The language institute here has created a Web site that provides self-instruction materials for learning useful words and phrases in two languages that are widely spoken in Afghanistan. The institute is best known for its resident training in foreign languages for all branches of the U.S. military services. Currently 23 languages are taught at its Presidio of Monterey campus.

Mrs. Diane Campbell, wife of FORSCOM's commander Gen. Charles C. Campbell, expressed her and Gen. Campbell's appreciation to the attendees for what they do to help support Soldiers' Families. "We share your vision, encourage you, and (we) thank you for what you do," she said.

    Maj. Brad Baumann, 2nd Brigade Combat Team chaplain, was invited to preach at the Prophecy Church of God of Charadeux, Haiti on Feb. 21. His chaplain's assistant, Spc. Midine Beauvais, translated the sermon for him. The locals were thrilled to have the chaplain at their church, as well as a group of 2BCT Paratroopers in attendance. However, Maj. Baumann hasn't lost sight of his primary mission in Haiti, preaching for his troops.

    Paratroopers with 2nd Brigade Combat Team have partnered with Italian soldiers and the Center of National Equipment to clear rubble from the streets of Port-au-Prince. The troopers are pulling security on the site and assisting with the removal, but the Italians have much better assets for the job. Troopers are trying to show the Italians how to work with the Haitian government and local police to secure the areas of rubble removal so the Italians can take control of the mission.

The game is used for "hip pocket training" by combat medics during after duty hours and mission lulls.     Medical doctors with 1st Iraqi Division set up a temporary clinic Feb. 11 in Al Uwesat, Iraq, and treated 312 villagers for a variety of common maladies in a partnered operation with U.S. Army medics. The two Iraqi physicians, with support from the 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (Advise and Assist), brigade surgeon and medics, treated 144 males and 168 females during the clinic's five hours of operation at a primary school in an east-Anbar village to provide medical service and win the goodwill of locals.

TCA is a partnership between North Carolina and the Department of Defense National Guard Bureau. It is a 22-week program that gives high-school dropouts the opportunity to get a General Education Development diploma.
