What's New in NextGen: March 2012 Posting

Implementing NextGen initiatives involves complex activities ranging from concept development to deployments of capabilities in the National Airspace System (NAS).

The FAA launched a Web-based NextGen Performance Snapshot, or Web-NPS, which provides information on the performance of NextGen capabilities as they become measureable throughout the NAS. Right now, we’re showing progress made in metroplex areas and the 30 core airports, and in targeted airspace, such as that over the Gulf of Mexico. The Web-NPS will continue to evolve as we collect more data, so between the NextGen Implementation Plan and the Web-NPS, it will be easy to get a big-picture view of what’s going on with NextGen.

In March, we published new satellite-based navigation procedures:

  • WAAS LPVS – 4

Satellite-based procedures are updated every eight weeks and are real implementations that currently provide benefits. These implemented procedures and identification of other implementations can be seen on our interactive maps at www.faa.gov/nextgen/flashmap
