  2. Congratulations to Rio Hondo College student Vincent Quigg! Vincent took home the $25,000 grand prize for his business, TechWorld, in the 2012 Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship's National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge.

  6. Great news! I'm very pleased a deal was worked out so that the 5 Freeway widening project will be fully funded. Cities in Southeast Los Angeles County have been working hard for almost 20 years to make this project a reality.
  7. Short-changing the communities of Southeast Los Angeles County by not fully funding the I-5 Carpool Lane Project is completely unacceptable.
  8. It was great to get an up close look at Whittier’s brand new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in action. Thanks to high-tech improvements, the Whittier Police are able to be more responsive to residents, which makes our community safer. I'm proud to have a played a part in securing the federal funding that made this project possible.

  15. In California, almost 8% of older adults are at risk of hunger. I was proud to join Lakewood Mayor Diane DuBois and AARP California for a major food drive in Lakewood recently. We have to do all that we can to fight older adult hunger.
  16. Our children deserve the chance to get ready for a lifetime of learning. They can't get critical early childhood development and education if their schools are closed.
