On-Site Consultation Program

The On-Site Consultation Program is a free business resource. The US Department of Labor and NYS Department of Labor fund this program. It helps employers provide a safe and healthful workplace for their employees through professional occupational safety and health assistance.

Why should an employer consider using the On-Site Consultation Program?  It’s good for business.  The services provided are:

  • At no cost to businesses and organizations in our state
  • Confidential
  • Freefrom state and federal enforcement activities

Further, the Consultation Program can help employers:

  • Reduce workplace accidents
  • Lessen Workers’ Compensation costs
  • Implement safety and health programs
  • Comply with OSHA regulations

The cost associated with a workplace injury can be staggering.  There are both direct and indirect costs to the employer.  Yet, employers can prevent it.  Each year we help thousands of businesses across the state by providing cost-effective solutions to safety issues.

The services offered include:

  • On-site consultation surveys to identify safety hazards
  • Industrial hygiene surveys to determine air contaminant and noise exposure levels

The safety and industrial hygiene professionals who perform these consultations:

  • Have many years of experience
  • Are well trained at the US DOL OSHA Training Institute

Training Programs for Businesses

We also offer training on occupational safety and health topics including:

  • Accident Investigation
  • Hazard Communication
  • Recordkeeping Rule
  • 10-hour Construction Safety Course

Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP)

This program is open to employers who:

  • Receive a comprehensive consultation
  • Correct all hazards
  • Institute an effective safety and health program

It makes them eligible for a three-year exemption from a general scheduled OSHA inspection. Employers also can ask to take part in our SHARP developmental program. This makes them eligible for an OSHA inspection deferral as they work towards SHARP.
