Labor Advisory Board

The Labor Advisory Board (LAB) is comprised of 13 members representing labor, management and the public who are appointed by the Governor. The purpose of the Board is to provide a forum for interested parties to discuss issues affecting Illinois workers, including labor laws administered and enforced by the Department. The Board advises the Director of Labor regarding labor policy and enforcement of laws, reviews statutes enforced by the Department and provides recommendations regarding the Department’s administrative regulations. Please refer to 20 ILCS 5/5-555 for further information.

Are you interested in applying to be a LAB member:

Governor Quinn signed Executive Order 10 to make the selection of individuals to serve on Illinois boards and commissions more transparent and accessible. To that end, the Governor’s Office of Executive Appointments has launched a website in which any individual interested in serving on Illinois boards and commissions need to apply using a new online application process.

The following is an outline of the new process:

· Prospective members need to apply online at:
       http://www.appointments.illinois.gov

· On the left hand side of the Appointments homepage there is a “Nominate Yourself” link. This link will take you to the application that needs to be filled out and submitted (online).

· The application is divided into several sections: board or commission sought (you have the option of choosing – in order of priority – which board and commission you are interested in serving), basic information, demographic information, citizenship, and residency, education, employment and professional qualifications, government affiliations and experience, interest and qualifications, and certification.

· Once your application has been submitted, any further documentation (i.e. letters of reference) will be incorporated into your electronic file for consideration.

If you have already submitted your online application and have questions as to the status of the application, please contact the Governor’s Office of Executive Appointments directly. Their number is: 217-782-1149.
