Secretary Duncan will give opening remarks before joining a panel discussion on the future of higher education from the vantage points of government, philanthropy, business, and higher education at the Time Summit on Higher Education in New York City. The panel will be moderated by Broadcast Journalist Bill Moyers. The other panelists are: Joseph E. Aoun, president, Northeastern University; Eli Broad, founder, the Broad Foundation; Roger W. Ferguson Jr., president and CEO, TIAA-CREF; Louis V. Gerstner, former CEO and chairman of the board, IBM. The summit is co-sponsored by Carnegie Corporation, Time Warner Inc., and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Secretary Duncan will give welcoming remarks at the National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principals Program (NDP Program). In his remarks, the Secretary will honor principals representing PreK – 8th grade public and private schools from all across the country, as well as Department of Defense Education Activity schools and the Department of State Office of Overseas Schools. The NDP Program recognizes elementary and middle school principals who set high standards for instruction, student achievement and character of the students, families, and staff in their learning community.
