  1. Are estimates available by industry?

    Yes, estimates are available by industry based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

    Unadjusted counts and rates for job openings, hires, total separations, quits, layoffs and discharges, and other separations are published for the following supersectors and select sectors: mining and logging; construction; manufacturing; durable goods manufacturing; nondurable goods manufacturing; trade, transportation, and utilities; wholesale trade; retail trade; transportation, warehousing, and utilities; information; financial activities; finance and insurance; real estate and rental and leasing; professional and business services; education and health services; educational services; health care and social assistance; leisure and hospitality; arts, entertainment, and recreation; accommodation and food services; other services; government; federal government; and state and local government.

    Seasonally adjusted counts and rates for job openings, hires, total separations, and quits are available for the following supersectors and select sectors: construction; manufacturing; trade, transportation, and utilities; retail trade; professional and business services; education and health services; leisure and hospitality; arts, entertainment, and recreation; accommodation and food services; government; and state and local government. Seasonally adjusted counts and rates for layoffs and discharges are available for total non-farm, total private, and government.

  2. Are estimates available by region?

    Yes, unadjusted estimates are published by four geographic regions for job openings, hires, total separations, quits, layoffs and discharges, and other separations. Seasonally adjusted estimates are available for job openings, hires, total separations, and quits. The States (including the District of Columbia) that comprise the various regions are:

    Northeast: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont;

    South: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia;

    Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin;

    West: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

    Note: The sample size is not large enough to support estimates for individual States or metropolitan areas.

  3. Are estimates available by occupation?

    No, JOLTS does not collect information by occupation. Occupational information is collected as part of the Current Population Survey and the Occupational Employment Statistics program.

  4. Are estimates available by establishment size?

    No, JOLTS does not publish estimates by size of establishment.

  5. Can I get a list of companies in the sample?

    No, data are collected under a pledge of confidentiality. BLS cannot disclose the names of survey participants.
