Senator Paul Simon Federal Building

Built in 1978, the three-story Senator Paul Simon Federal Building is made of reinforced concrete and consists of three modules interconnected by a multi-level ramped corridor system in lieu of an elevator.
The building is named after the late Paul Simon, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and the U.S. Senate from 1985 to 1997.

Current Recovery Act & Other Projects The building's recently completed Recovery Act project involved replacing the existing sloped roof – originally designed as a solar demonstration project – with modern photovoltaic panels. Surplus energy produced by the photovoltaic panels is sold to the local utility company. The building's Energy Management System will soon be upgraded to maximize energy use. The building has also undergone installation of a new fire management system as part of a non-Recovery Act project.
Parking and Public Transportation The building has various parking options, including a municipal parking garage to the north. An Amtrak rail station is located one block east of the building. Tenant Agencies The building houses offices for the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello, and U.S. Senator Richard Durbin. Ninety-five percent of respondents to the building's most recent Tenant Satisfaction Survey (2011) indicated they were "more than satisfied" with the facility and GSA services (a rating of four or higher on a five-point scale).
