There are three steps to joining SmartWay as a rail carrier partner:

START HERE!Before downloading the Rail Carrier Tool, take time to review the getting started guide, which includes a copy of the partnership agreement*. "You will need Adobe Reader to view some of the files on this page. See EPA's PDF page to learn more."
1) ASSESS:The first step to becoming a SmartWay partner is collecting your data. The data collection overview and workbook below will help you get prepared for your tool submission and make data entry easier. GATHERING YOUR DATA

2) CALCULATE:The next step in becoming a SmartWay partner is to enter your data in the Rail Tool. User Guide 3 will help you with data entry and troubleshooting the tool. Download the SmartWay Rail Tool Here (XLS) (1.76 MB)DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS: To download the tool, you need to SAVE the file to a folder.

3) TRACK:To maintain your status as a SmartWay Rail Carrier in good standing, you will need to update your data and resubmit a Rail Carrier Tool each year.
