Edward Zorinsky Federal Building

Exterior of the Edward Zorinsky Federal Building

1616 Capitol Avenue
Omaha, NE 68102-4908

Housing about 1,200 federal workers, the 432,000 square foot Edward Zorinsky Federal Building, is named for the late Edward Zorinsky, a former Omaha mayor and U.S. Senator from Nebraska.

Design and energy-saving features of the building include a three-story atrium and a four-foot-wide daylight corridor around the perimeter of the operating levels. These areas allow the building’s workers ample access to natural sunlight. In addition, exterior lighting shelves reflect light into the building’s core at the ceiling level, while exterior light louvers control excess light and glare from entering the building.

Green Features

During demolition and reconstruction, GSA recycled or reused nearly 99 percent of the internal finishes. Working through a community partnership with Humanity Restore, GSA was able to salvage a vast array of building materials for reuse in Nebraska schools, or to set aside for recycling.

Building engineers believe that the Zorinsky Federal Building will provide top-tier office space, energy efficient operations, security for employees, and structural durability for the next 50 years and beyond.
