NRC's Regional Office in Atlanta (Region II) is responsible for carrying out the agency's duties in Kentucky. No operating nuclear reactors are located in Kentucky. However, the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) is currently operating a Gaseous Diffusion Uranium Enrichment Facility in Paducah, KY, which is leased from the U.S. Department of Energy and has been regulated by the NRC since March 4, 1997. Kentucky is an Agreement State.
