Diane Elizabeth Taylor Bays, 52, of Charleston, formerly of Clay, entered into rest Monday, October 15, 2012.

Born November 15, 1959, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Dewayne and Wanda Taylor.

Diane is survived by her son, Robert Taylor of Pinch; daughters, Deanna Taylor of St. Albans and Savannah Dawson of Charleston; six grandchildren; brothers, Dannie Taylor of Clay, Dean Taylor of Lizemores and David Taylor of Fola; and sister, Drema Walker of Clendenin.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Dannie Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.

Christine Divita Bondick, 83, died October 10, 2012. She was born October 9, 1929, in Smithers, and was the daughter of the late Mary and Benny Divita.

Chris is survived by her husband, Donald Bondick; six children & their families: daughter, Pamela Tompkins and her daughter, Jessica; son, Gregory Bondick, his wife, Lynnette, and their two daughters, Lyndsey and Nicole; daughter, Melissa McDaniel, her husband, Randy, and their children, Nathan, Tyler and Courtney; daughter, Debbie Burns, her husband, Jerry, and their two children, Ryan and Amy; son, Joseph Bondick, his wife, Debra, and their children, Tonia Jordan, Sara Cleary, Summer and Erika Bondick, Michele Wallace, Camilla Conley and Gary Ely: daughter, Rebecca Bondick; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was expecting her 18th great-granddaughter in November. She is also survived by four brothers, Tommy Divita, Frank Divita, Paul Divita and Gary Divita; and three sisters, Brenda Napier, Judy Goldsberry and Kathleen Crosby.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis McNeece and Shirley Lowe; her father, Benjamin Divita; her mother, Mary Divita; and one son-in-law, Chuck Tompkins.

Her service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene.

Ellen Arlene O'Dell Cobb, 76, of Maysel, departed this life on Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Born March 18, 1936, in Roane County, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth O'Dell.

Ellen is survived by her sons, Glen Abbott of Maysel, with whom she made her home, and Jim Abbott of Maysel; three daughters and their spouses, Joan and Jamie Nichols of Lizemores, Becky and Bobbie Burdett of Procious and Gina and Rusty Vaughn of Procious; she was a proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Vineyard of Arnoldsburg; and brother, Eugene O'Dell of Tariff.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay.

Julia Denise Frame Hughes, born December 15, 1959, of Spring Hill Mountain, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012, doing what she loved most, being outdoors and camping.

Julia is survived by her father, Franklin W. He was a security officer with G4S Security Company and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Born January 1, 1943, in St. Albans, Dorothy was the daughter of the late James and Esther Lawson Little.

She was a homemaker and former manager of the men's department at Value City Department Store. She was a member of Pilgrim Home Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active in the women's ministry and a member of the choir.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lewis Sr.; son, Thomas Little Lewis Jr. of St. Albans; brother, James Little of Charleston; grandchildren, Cierra Chantel Lewis, Jordan La'Shay Lewis, Thomas James Lewis and Chanc Robert Lewis, all of St. Albans; and also a host of friends.

Clyde H. Murdock
Clyde H. Murdock was born in Sherman, Miss., on July 24, 1915. He was 97 years old and passed away October 12, 2012, at Kirby Pines Retirement Community, Memphis, Tenn., where he had been a resident for the past four years.

Clyde served in the United States Army. He owned Murdock Printing Company in Memphis for 20 years; then, he was called to the ministry as a superintendent of Charleston Union Mission. He then retired to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he and his beloved wife, Maggie, resided until he moved back to Memphis, where he lived until his death.

Clyde is survived by his two daughters, Margo Peterson and Cathy Zuckerman Dee; plus eight granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral service and interment will follow visitation at 11 a.m. All will be at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Germantown Road, Memphis. A memorial service will also be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Kirby Pines Retirement Community, 3535 Kirby Road, Memphis.

Misty Dawn Ramella
Misty Dawn Ramella, 41, of Charleston, passed away October 14, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston, following a short illness.

She was a waitress, having last worked for Bob Evans in Kanawha City.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas Scott Cole and Elijah James Brandon Cole, both at home; daughter, Alicia Nicole Ramella of Sissonsville; father, Thomas Ross of Charleston; and mother, Pamela Bibbee and her husband, Jim, of Parkersburg.

Misty will sadly be missed by all her family, including all of her aunts, uncles, cousins and her host of friends.

In keeping with Misty's wishes, her body has been cremated and her ashes will be interred at a later date. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, October 19, at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church, Kanawha City, with the Rev. David Bragg officiating. A gathering of her family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday.

Terry Lee Rucker
Terry Lee Rucker, 36, of Charleston, passed away October 10, 2012, after a short battle with cancer. Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Coen, and father, Roger Lee Rucker. He is survived by his son, Bradley Mario Rucker; Bradley's mom, Wendy Kidd; brothers, Tommy Walker and Troy Lee Rucker; sister-in-law, Sherry Peyton; nieces, Diva Peyton and Danielle Rucker; and nephew, Jeffery Scott Rucker.

Terry worked for the state of West Virginia for several years. Terry was a loving friend and will be missed. A memorial service will be planned at a later date to celebrate Terry's life and memories.

Nile Hubbard Samples Sr.
Nile Hubbard Samples Sr., 84, of South Charleston, died Monday, October 15, 2012, at home.

He was a retired rigger for Union Carbide Corp., with over 40 years of service, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, South Charleston. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of the Elks Lodge. Nile was a proud graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, where he played football and was All-State both his junior and senior years. He fondly cherished these times and received countless college scholarship offers, yet he chose to serve his country and join the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Graves and Jettie Samples; son, Nile Samples Jr.; sisters, Betty Lang and Janet Samples.

Surviving are his loving wife, Catherine Fitzgerald Samples; daughter, Missy Samples-Martinez of New York and her companion, Jimmy Kimberling, who served as Niles' friend and support over the last several years; sister, Helen Vorholt of Hurricane; and grandson, Nile Samples Martinez.

Service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 305 E St., South Charleston, with Father John Finnell officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Louise Smith, 88, of Poca, passed away October 14, 2012, at her home.

She was a homemaker and spent her life caring for and giving to anyone in need.

Louise will be sadly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George Garnet Smith.

Robert N. Stephens, 86, of Dunbar, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital, following a long illness. Robert was born July 10, 1926, in Comfort, a son of the late Herbert and Thelma Lynn Stephens. He was a graduate of Seth High School, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired electrical instrument repairman for Kaiser Aluminum.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Smith Stephens; daughter, Stephanie Sydenstricker and her husband, Larry, of Charleston; stepsons, Edward Carson and wife, Pam, of Charleston and Stephen Carson of Malden; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Charles K. Toombs
Charles K. "Chuck" Toombs, 82, of Oak Hill, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012, from a sudden illness, at CAMC Memorial Division.

Born July 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Ryland Toombs and Agnes Bowyer Toombs. Charles was known by his friends as "Chuck" and also by his family and early-childhood friends by the nickname of "Jerry." At the age of 17, Chuck became the youngest person in the state to receive his pilot's license. He graduated from Beckley College and was a pilot and an air traffic controller for the U.S. Air Force. While at Andrews Air Force Base he helped with the landings and take-offs of several U.S. presidents' planes. Chuck truly loved being a pilot and working in the air traffic industry. He retired from Yeager Airport in Charleston with 29 years as an air traffic controller. Chuck was the developer and owner of the Hill'n Dale Estates mobile home court. Chuck and his wife, Barbara, attended Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 17 years, Barbara Hickman-Toombs of Oak Hill; daughters, Kaye Woodrum-Robertson and spouse, Patrick, of Roanoke, Va., and Kathy Hickman-James and spouse, Mark, of Hurricane; a sister, Betty Toombs Hiser of Newark, Ohio; a brother, Tom Toombs of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Darrin Woodrum, Novella Thompson, Josh and Justin James, Shelly Street and Reece and Tori James; and three nieces and one nephew.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Jerry Bush, the Rev. George Gary Whittington
George "Gary" Whittington, 65, of Leesburg, Fla., passed away after a long illness on September 1, 2012. Originally from Charleston, Gary had most recently been providing personal financial advice and insurance coverages through his own Allstate Insurance Agency in the Orland, Fla., area.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Mr and Mrs. George and Ruby (Pennington) Whittington; and a sister, Marilyn "Sue" Surface and her infant daughter, Melinda Noel Surface.

He is survived by a sister, Carolyn "Ann" Ball, her husband, Woodrow, and her children, Shawn, Josh and Jeff Parsons and their families. He is also survived by a niece, Emily Ann Surface. Gary also wanted to recognize his special aunt (his mother's twin), Ruth Pennington. He also leaves several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other friends and neighbors, along with his companion German shepherd, Eva. In addition, Gary wanted to also recognize his basketball buddies, which included his longtime pal, Mr. Larry Chatfield. The family and Gary would also wish to appreciate Gary's very special friend and his guardian angel, Ms. Esther Depedro.

Gary was involved in many sports as a youth but always excelled at basketball, having played center for '61-'64 Charleston High Mountain Lions and with the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears until an automobile accident ended his college career in 1965. Later, Gary graduated with a business degree from Morris Harvey College/University of Charleston.

He loved to play competitive basketball and continued to participate many years, leading to the Senior Olympics. In December of 2011, Gary participated in the Florida International Senior Games with his team, Allstate/Leesburg, taking the gold medal. Early in 2012 he also served as a player/coach in the National Masters Basketball USA Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Gary was also elected to the Delaware Senior Olympics Board while he lived there.

A memorial service celebrating Gary's life will be held on Sunday, October 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 2 at the South Charleston Community Center, 601 Jefferson Road, South Charleston. Please bring your memories, any photos, etc., to share with family and friends.
