President Kevin Carpenter of the WV Filmmakers Festival in Sutton told me that Gates was chosen as this year’s WV filmmaker of the year. I have been trying to call Bob but can’t get a response. In any case, congrats to Bob who has done so much for WV filmmaking since at least 1977.

2012 WV Filmmakers Festival Call for Entries

West Virginia Filmmakers Festival’s Call for Entries and Nominations sought for West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year.

The West Virginia Filmmakers Festival is launching its 2012 Call for Entries, inviting filmmakers around the country to submit feature films, documentaries, shorts, animation and experimental works. Films should have a West Virginia connection such as the film made by a West Virginian (Producer, Director, Crew, Actor, etc), about West Virginia, in West Virginia or of interest to West Virginians. The festival will run October 5– October 7 at the Elk Theater and the Landmark Studio for the Arts in historic Sutton, WV. All entries must be received by September 15th, 2012. Gordon Simmons Interviews Dr. Fred Barkey on socialism in WV

Dr. Fred Barkey, one of WV’s leading labor historians, has had his Ph.D. thesis published by WVU Press – “Working Class Radicals.” Gordon Simmons, one of WV’s leading experts on WV labor history and intellectuals, teaching philosophy courses for Marshall, etc, has interviewe Dr. Barkey for his WVLC local cable series, “West Virginia Author.” Channel 17 on Suddenlink. St. Albans resident to intro new film on WWII – Lost Airmen of Buchenwald

On April 13th, at 7 PM, Alban Art Center, 65 Olde Main Street, St. Albans, WV
