ACCRA, Ghana - Gen. Charles F. Wald, U.S. European Command, deputy commander, discusses plans for the future exercise reception center with Ensign Brent Uyehara, a U.S. Naval Seabee deployed there to help construct the center. Gen. Wald was in Ghana concluding a weeklong trip to Africa where he also visited South Africa, Sao Tome and Gabon. He traveled to Africa to meet with leaders and discuss the growing strategic value of the continent in a changing global security. U.S. European Command has programs in place to help the nations of Africa build competent, disciplined militaries, capable of effective counter-terrorism operations and open to cooperative interaction with the militaries of neighboring states - programs that include Humanitarian Assistance, HIV/AIDS education and testing programs, and other various exercises.
