Mid-Atlantic Region CAR Supports U.S. Army Europe
In an effort to control costs, effective September 1, 2012, U.S. Army Europe designated the 21st Theater Sustainment Command (21 TSC) High-Priority Cell as the only organization under its command authorized to submit offline orders to GSA.  To support this cost savings initiative, GSA Customer Service Office for Europe, Africa & Middle East (GSA CSOE) developed a training session that detailed streamlined offline ordering procedures aimed at minimizing confusion and maximizing efficiency.  GSA CSOE presented the training to over 30 authorized buyers from the 21 TSC during the week of August 20.  The training was a success, which was made evident by the 21 TSC implementing the new procedures ahead of the planned September 1 deadline.  Representatives of the 21 TSC expressed gratitude to GSA CSOE for the training citing that the new procedures will lead to improved financial and asset management accountability as well as support the proper use of Army supply chain systems.

GSA Charleston Field Office and U.S. Marshal Service partner for Active Shooter Exercises
The U.S. Marshal Service of the Southern District of West Virginia and the GSA Charleston Field Office conducted Active Shooter training sessions for building tenants on July 20 at the Robert C. Byrd U.S. Courthouse (Charleston), Sidney L. Christie U.S. Courthouse (Huntington), and Robert C. Byrd U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building (Beckley).  Participants gained an overview of precautionary and reactive measures, law enforcement response to active shootings and lock-down procedures. The exercise afforded tenants the opportunity to actively engage in a simulated active shooter emergency situation, helping them gain an understanding of how volatile these situations can be, and what steps to take to protect themselves.
