FY 2007
Congress appropriated $30,000,000 for Hurricane Education Recovery Awards. Awards were formula-based. Elements of the formula include the number of Pell Grant recipients enrolled at the institution; the revenue lost by the institution as a direct result of the hurricane; expenses incurred by the institution in remedying the effects of the hurricane; construction necessitated by damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; and the amount of any insurance settlements and other hurricane-related grants received from federal agencies, foundations, or charities intended to offset expenses or losses due to hurricane damages.
