Defending dignity, fighting poverty
Introduction
CARE is a leading humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting social injustice and tackling the underlying causes of poverty so that people can become self-sufficient. We place special emphasis on investing in women and girls because our six decades of experience show that their empowerment benefits not only themselves but whole families and entire communities. In fiscal year 2010, CARE worked in 87 countries around the world, supporting 905 poverty-fighting projects to reach 82 million people, more than half of whom are women.
