General Counsel's Summer Honors Program

Summer Intern Program

The Department of the Treasury offers a volunteer summer intern program for law students.  Students selected as Summer Interns will work in Washington, DC, in one of the following offices:

  • Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs
  • Assistant General Counsel for Banking and Finance
  • Assistant General Counsel for General Law, Ethics & Regulation
  • International Tax Counsel
  • Chief Counsel of the Office of Foreign Assets Control
  • Chief Counsel, Office of Financial Stability
  • Chief Counsel, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau
  • Chief Counsel, Bureau of Engraving and Printing
  • Chief Counsel, Bureau of Public Debt
  • Chief Counsel, United States Mint
  • Chief Counsel, Financial Management Service

Information about the Treasury Department and its various components may be found at www.Treasury.gov.

These internships offer an opportunity to improve research and writing skills, to observe the practice of law in a major cabinet agency, and to learn about substantive areas of the law by dealing with issues faced by Treasury lawyers and their clients.  We expect a ten-week commitment from our Summer Interns.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury legal division is committed to attracting candidates from diverse backgrounds and experience with first-rate academic and professional credentials.  We seek candidates who possess a strong work ethic, demonstrate a genuine interest in the mission of the Treasury Department, exhibit a work attitude of cooperation, dedication, and integrity and are comfortable working with and presenting views to senior lawyers and policymakers at Treasury.  Treasury Legal Division interns must inspire confidence through substantive excellence, effective oral and written communication, critical analysis, and the exercise of good judgment.  We look for team builders with strong interpersonal skills, who are adept at building positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
