New on MERLN:
October 2012 - A new MiPAL is now available focusing on cybersecurity issues and policy. The page brings together a collection of U.S. Government policy statements that describe efforts to modernize and protect the nation's cyber infrastructure. It also contains the latest analysis from think tanks on economic issues, international initiatives, cloud computing security, and cyberwarfare. Reports from the Government Accountability Office and Congressional Research Services, as well as experts such as Symantec, McAfee, and Kasperksy, discuss the issues surrounding cybercrime and efforts to establish effective policies to govern cyberspace.
March 2011 - A new Issues at a Glance page is now available focusing on the commencement of coalition air strikes and the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya in response to the brutal crackdown on protesters by the Qaddafi regime. The page brings together a collection of U.S. Government policy statements that articulate the U.S. response to events in Libya, the latest analysis from think tanks, links to the United Nations Security Council resolutions authorizing the use of force to end the repression, and key Congressional Research Service reports examining no-fly zones and declarations of war and use of military force.
February 2011 - A new Issues at a Glance page is now available focusing on the protests in the Middle East. The page brings together a collection of U.S. Government policy statements that capture the U.S. response to events in the Middle East along with the latest analysis from think tanks.
July 2010 - The military education libraries that form the MERLN consortium produce a wealth of bibliographies to guide research on a wide range of military topics, including arms sales, coalition operations, diplomacy and strategic alliances, ethics and leadership, privatization, transnational crime, and war powers. For the first time, these bibliographies are all brought together in one location for easy access. June 2010 - The National Defense University Library is pleased to announce the release of its U.S. National Strategy Documents collection, a comprehensive collection of official U.S. Government strategy documents, including National Security Strategies dating from the Reagan Administration to the present day, Military and Defense Strategies, Quadrennial Defense Review reports, and strategies focusing on terrorism, homeland security, cyber security, and weapons of mass destruction. All these strategy documents are brought together in one location, enhanced by a full- text search feature to facilitate in-depth research.
March 2010 - The National Defense University Library is proud to announce the release of the revised Weapons of Mass Destruction Military Policy Awareness Link (MiPAL). Working in partnership with NDU's Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction, the Library staff has completely restructured the page to provide direct access to the latest research, analysis and policy statements on biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, international initiatives and treaties relating to WMD, nonproliferation, disarmament, and efforts to stop the use of WMD by terrorists. January 2010 - A new category has been added to MERLN's Haiti Military Policy Awareness Links page. The new category focuses on disaster relief and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on 12 January. Visit the Haiti MiPAL for the latest statements on U.S. assistance efforts and news and analysis on the siutation in Haiti.
April 2009 - The inaugural edition of MERLN's new alert service, Issues at a Glance, is now available, featuring a comprehensive selection of resources on piracy off the coast of Somalia. Pulled together on one page for easy access are U.S. policy responses and recommendations, as well as websites and reports providing information on the international response, the scope and consequences of piracy, and suggestions for effective strategies to combat it.
April 2009 - The Digital Collections from the Library at the United States Military Academy at West Point are now available on MERLN's Digital Collections Page. The collection includes extensive documention of the history of West Point, the U.S. Military Academy, and Academy alumni in a rich collection of books, manuscripts, and photographs.
March 2009 - At the 2009 Computers in Libraries conference, the MERLN team demonstrated a pilot project to build a full-text searchable database featuring MERLN's comprehensive collection of policy statements from the White House, Department of Defense, and State Department tracing the evolution of U.S. involvement in Iraq beginning with the buildup to the 2003 invasion and continuing on to the present day. Be sure to visit our pilot project often as our collection continues to grow.
