Mar 29, 2010
FORT MCPHERSON, Ga., (March 29, 2010)-It's that time again in the United States, the time when we count the nation's population. Known as the Census, this once-per-decade effort begins April 1, but many people have already started receiving the forms in the mail. U.S. Department of Commerce officials said accurate census reporting among Soldiers and their Families is important. In fact, they emphasize that it's just as important to the military population as it is for their civilian counterparts. The Census results determine the distribution of about $400 billion per year, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. This money is what funds community services nationwide, services that also benefit Soldiers and their Families.

Commentary: Leadership means more than being a nice guy
Feb 4, 2010
JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. - It is a lot easier to define leadership than it is to put your finger on the attributes of a good leader. There are as many ways to look at the question as there are ways to lead effectively. A common thread is often taking care of Soldiers. Looking out for your subordinates' well being is certainly an important consideration, but it always has to be tempered by the knowledge that accomplishing the mission might put those subordinates at grave risk.

FORSCOM recognizes 69th ADA culinary team for excellence in food service competition
Feb 3, 2010
At Fort Hood, a post packed with tankers, cavalry troops and infantry grunts, even cooks have their place. As the sole providers of hot chow while units train in the field and labor in combat zones, food service specialists uphold a vital mission that helps set the foundation for success on the battlefield. Quite literally, they fuel the Army. A team of hard-charging food service Soldiers from Fort Hood's own 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade is certainly no exception to excellence when it comes to serving food. From March to November 2009, the team changed its pace a bit and dished up some stiff competition in the 42nd annual, Army-wide Phillip A. Connelly Competition for Excellence in Food Service. Gen. Charles Campbell, the commander of U.S. Army Forces Command, recognized the seven-man team of Soldiers Tuesday at III Corps' headquarters building for taking top honors at the FORSCOM level in June 2009 and finishing as the runner-up team for the Department of the Army just four months later.
